Campania, new tax on ports
Uniport and Assiterminal warn of unsustainable costs and loss of competitiveness
Companies operating in the ports of Naples, Salerno, and Castellammare have received an official communication from thethe Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, acting on behalf of the Regione Campania, requiring payment of a new tax on state concession fees.
The amount ranges from 10% to 25% of the annual fee, along with an additional request for back payments covering the past five years..
A brake on competitiveness
According to Uniport and Assiterminal, this decision:
- represents an unjustified increase in costs,
- comes after the Infrastructure Decree, which failed to resolve the 2023 surcharge dispute,
- risks creating a unique situation in the national landscape, with potential emulation in other regions.
The measure, they argue, threatens the competitiveness of Campania’s ports, with direct consequences on planned investments and even on employment levels.
Next steps
The two associations are evaluating legal and political actions to defend the sector’s companies. Their goal is to ensure fair competitive conditions, “if not identical, at least compatible,” with those of businesses located in other Italian regions operating in the same national and international markets.
